SCORE

BCMC – Seminars from past Building Component Manufacturers Conferences are available. View the Economic Forecast; Keynote Address; or seminar tracks on topics such as Sales, Technical, Production, Insurance, Risk Management, Wall Panels, or Personnel. Downloads for seminar handouts are available. In addition, view the Annual Meeting presentations for free.

In-Plant Safety – WTCA's Operation Safety program helps plants identify costs and savings of safety programs. Participants create, implement, train, evaluate and maintain an in-house program. Plant personnel have access to several online multi-media training modules.

In-Plant QC – The In-Plant WTCA QC program helps truss manufacturers monitor the quality of trusses they manufacture in order to comply with ANSI/TPI 1. View the In-Plant WTCA QC presentation online and then schedule a private training at your plant.

In-Plant Basic – The new In-Plant Basic Training program addresses your production training needs. Using pictures and graphics to maximize retention, it teaches basic industry knowledge, explains the design and assembly processes and reviews proper safety practices.

ORisk – Online Risk Management (ORisk) educates manufacturers on the liabilities of conducting business and methods for minimizing exposure to loss. WTCA legal counsel Kent Pagel developed this course from his years of experience serving the structural building components industry.

Software Training – WTCA does not provide training on any specific truss design software packages, so truss manufacturers may contact their metal connector plate supplier or truss design software provider for training information.

TATO 1 – Technical Assessment Test Online 1 is a hiring tool for technical personnel. It evaluates basic math and 3-D visualization skills without calculators or design software. Managers get instant feedback to compare to other test results or to national averages. Now, also available for cold-formed steel (CFSTATO 1)!

TATO 2 – Technical Assessment Test Online 2, an advanced truss industry test, is useful for quantifying design department skills and clarifying training priorities. Now, also available for cold-formed steel (CFSTATO 2)!

TATO EWP – This Technical Assessment Test Online was developed to test the skills of Engineered Wood Products technicians.

TRUCK – SBCA TRUCK Basic Driver Training is a comprehensive, industry-specific program that addresses the safety, risk and compliance aspects of material handling, product transport and safe operation of equipment.

Truss Basics – A simplified version of TTT Level I with less time-intensive truss math and load development sections, Truss Basics is better suited to those who want to understand design procedures but will not be performing truss design.

TMO – Truss Manufacturing Orientation is an introductory training course for anyone with little or no truss industry experience, giving participants an excellent grounding in the industry with ten units of material that can be reviewed at any pace.

TTT Level I – Truss Technician Training Level I introduces truss technicians to design and engineering fundamentals. Students learn about factors affecting truss design from specification to installation. Students who pass the TTT Level I Exam achieve Level I Certification.

TTT Level II – Truss Technician Training Level II introduces advanced concepts of math and load development. Students review standards such as ANSI/TPI 1, NDSŪ and ASCE and perform calculations. Students who pass the TTT Level II Exam achieve Level II Certification.

TTT Level III – Truss Technician Training Level III evolved from seminar-style live training and features current technical issues, with course material provided by industry professionals. Students who pass the TTT Level III Exam achieve Level III Certification.

TTT Metric Level I – Truss Technician Training Level I introduces truss technicians to design and engineering fundamentals. Students learn about factors affecting truss design from specification to installation. The course uses metric measurements and references to the 2005 National Building Code of Canada.

TTT Plan Reading – This four-day classroom seminar uses real residential and commercial plans. Students learn terminology, symbols, scales, layouts, and truss and material take-offs, while focusing on factors that affect truss design.

TTW – Truss Technology Workshops are short courses on wood truss and wood frame construction that earn attendees continuing education credits. Visit ttw.sbcindustry.com for more information.

    The Bottom Line
  • TKO has created a comprehensive skills evaluation and training program for potential employees and new hires to follow.
  • The four TKO training paths will prepare new hires for their jobs through training created by component manufacturers for this express purpose.
  • There are also several training paths for suppliers, architects, engineers, building officials and the fire service, or anyone interested in learning more about the truss industry.
